A.PENGERTIAN CASING

Casing komputer merupakan kotak atau rumah untuk perangkat – perangkat komputer yang berfungsi untuk melindungi perangkat – perangkat yang sangat sensitif. Berikut jenis – jenis casing komputer :

1.     Casing tower

Casing tower adalah casing yang paling sering kita jumpai dan casing towermemiliki ukuran yang bermacam – macam.

2.     Casing slim

Casing model slim umumnya bersifat fleksibel karena bisa digunakan dengan posisi tidur atau berdiri.

3.     Casing desktop

Casing desktop biasanya ditempatkan di atas meja (posisi tidur) dancukup kokoh sehingga monitor dapat diletakkan di atasnya serta dengan lebar 30 – 40 cm dan panjang 50 – 60 cm.

4.     Casing large

Casing large server biasanya berbentuk seperti file cabinet dengan dengan ukuran yang cukup besar.

5.     Casing Rackmount

Casing model ini merupakan computer yang ditempatkan pada rak khusus server atau perangkat jaringan lainnya

B. KOMPONEN PERANGKAT KERAS DI CASING

Berikut komponen perangkat keras di casing :

1.     Power supply

Power supply adalah perangkat keras yang berisi kabel – kabel dan berfungsi untuk menyalurkan tegangan ke dalam perangkat keras lainnya.

2.     Mainboard atau Motherboard (MB)

Mainboard atau Motherboard adalah perangkat keras yang berbentuk papan kotak yang berfungsi sebagai pusat penghubung antara satu perangkat keras dengan perangkat keras lainnya.

3.     CPU (Central Processing Unit)

CPU adalah perangkat keras yang berada di kantong yang telah disediakan dalam motherboard yang berfungsi sebagai unit pemroses utama dalam memerintahkan program yang akan dijalankan oleh sebuah komputer.

4.     Memori

Memori adalah perangkat keras yang berfungsi untuk menyimpan informasi sebelum atau sesudah diproses oleh processor. Memori dibagi menjadi 2, yaitu :

1)      ROM (Read Only Memory)

ROM adalah tempat memori yang berfungsi untuk menyimpan perintah dan secara tetap dan tidak akan hilang meskipun aliran listrik terputus.

2)      RAM (Random Access Memory)

RAM adalah memori utama yang berfungsi untuk menyimpan sementara data dan perintah saat program dijalankan dan memori yang tersimpan akan hilang jika aliran listrik terputus.

5.     VGA (Video Graphics Adapter) card

VGA Card adalah perangkat keras yang berfungasi melakukan proses mengubah sinyal digital yang berisi informasi visual. Perangkat keras ini menggunakan kabel konektornya untuk disambukan ke layar monitor ataupun TV sebagai alternatifnya.

6.     Sound card

Sound Card adalah perangkat keras yang berfungsi untuk mengubah sinyal digital menjadi sinyal suara. Sound Card berdasarkan cara pemasangannnya dibagi menjadi 3, yaitu :

1)      Sound card onboard, yaitu sound card yang menempel langsung pada motherboard komputer.

2)      Sound card offboard, yaitu sound card yang pemasangannya di slot ISA/PCI pada komputer.

3)      Sound card external, yaitu sound card yang penggunaannya disambungkan ke komputer melalui port eksternal, seperti USB dan firewall.

7.     NIC (Network Interface Card)

NIC adalah sebuah kartu yang berfungsi sebagai jembatan dari komputer ke sebuah sebuah jaringan komputer. NIC dibagi menjadi 2, yaitu :

1)      NIC fisik yaitu, berupa kartu yang dapat ditancapkan ke dalam sebuah slot dalam mainboard komputer.

2)      NIC logis yaitu, jenis NIC yang tidak ada secara fisik dan sepenuhnya menggunakan perangkat lunak yang harus diinstalasikan secara manual.

8.     Hardisk

Hardisk adalah media yang digunakan untuk menyimpan file system dan data dalam computer.

Hardisk memiliki 2 macam, yaitu :

1)      Hardisk internal yaitu, hardisk yang berada di dalan casing computer

2)      Hardisk eksternal yaitu, hardisk yang dihubungkan ke computer unit dengan kabel (biasanya berada di luar casing computer.

9.     Floppy Disk

Floppy disk drive adalah perangkat keras yang mirip seperti hardisk dan digunakan untuk menyimpan Drive data dengan media disket tetapi memiliki kapasitas yang lebih sedikit disbanding hardisk.

10.          CD Room / DVD Room Read atau Write

CD Room / DVD Room Read atau Write adalah perangkat keras yang berfungsi untuk media yang membaca dan menulus piringan CD, DVD, atau VCD.
